Are there fun things to do in the Bahamas outside of the Atlantis resort?
Right now I am planning a trip to the Bahamas. This Atlantis resort sounds really cool but I don’t want to just stay on the resort the whole vacation. Is there anything fun you can do or visit in Nassau? If not, is the Atlantis resort big enough were you won’t get tired of staying and there won’t be a need to leave it?
I’ve been going to the Bahamas every year since I was 7 and I’m now 19. Every year we go to the same couple places on the island of Abaco. They’re extremely beautiful and you can find fun stuff to do all the time.
The couple places I go are Green Turtle Cay on the Island of Abaco and we stay either at the Bluff House or the Coco Bay Cottages. It’s right on the cay so you have 2 beaches, one on either side of you. One is more rough and we usually go body surfing and boogie boarding there, the other side is more calm and is perfect for playing around in, shelling, and exploring during low tide. Everyone on this part of the island is local and extremely friendly. If you go there, say hi to Brendal who works at the scuba shop!
The other place we go on Abaco which is by FAR my favorite place is Hopetown. It’s a beautiful little town and is seriously the secret treasure of the Bahamas. It’s got extremely friendly people, adorable shops, good food, and amazing beaches. Places to hit up if you go there are Tahiti beach for the BEST shelling, Iggy Biggy boutique, Vernon’s grocers for some AMAZING coconut bread, and Captain Jacks for drinking and dancing!
You can get to these places by ferry if you fly into Marsh Harbour, Abaco in the Bahamas. And I HIGHLY recommend these places!
Another thing to make sure you try in the Bahamas is their signature soda they make and distribute only in the Bahamas. It’s called Goombay Punch and it’s pineapple soda, DELICIOUS!
However, if you’re looking for the tourist experience, I would say to go to the Atlantis resort. There’s plenty of tourists there to make friends with.

I’ve visited the Atlantis and I’m not sure you’ll even want to leave the resort. It’s absolutely breathtaking and HUGE. you can take a taxi over to nassau but it’s very poor over there. i’m not sure i’d go at night though. they do have shops, hair braiding, etc. but they BUG THE HELL OUTTA YOU to buy stuff! i actually got one of the hair-braiding ladies to go from $150 – $50 to braid my whole head.
have fun.
