The tires on now are low profile 225/50R16. I want to get the cheapest winter tires possible. Should I get cheap new rims (not low Profile) and cheap winter tires instead of low profile winter tires? If so, what size of rim would I need for that bolt pattern?
Get 4 steel wheels and 4 snow tires. You run the risk of someone damaging your wheels if they aren’t careful when they install low profile snow tires. Why would you want to chance damaging your alloy wheels if your car slid on snow and crashed into a curb.
As stated elsewhere Blizzaks are excellent albeit a little noisy.

I am involved in planning Teen Retreats in the winter, for a camp That Has a bunch of hills, Forest, and Flat Grounds. I no the obvious ones like Sledding Building snow men, I like those ideas but maybe you can help me Make them a little bit more fun. Thank you guys for your answers.
Also it doesn’t have to be at the camp grounds we live in buffalo so if anyone knows any good ideas in buffalo it would be greatly appreciated.
txblack… I am sorry we cant do that..this is for about a couple of weekends at the most.
thank you for your answer though
This may sound like a strange question for someone in Buffalo; but have you tried snow camping. Not just camping in the snow but building snow caves and have more of a winter survival skill adventure. I did this with about 23 youth in RI several years ago. I spent 2 months giving weekly classes to our youth on wilderness survival with the proviso that if they missed more than one class they could not attend. Not a one of them missed more than 1 class and the majority attended all classes.

I am planning on buying a warm coat for winter. I want one with the warmest fabric. I just don’t know which fabric it is:
Velvet, wool, etc…?
And do you have any suggestions for buying a winter coat?
Wool is generally the best, which is why a lot of winter jackets are made with the fabric.

We are going to be moving at some point this winter and I have some hostas in my yard that I would like to take with me. I want to dig them up now before the ground freezes, how would I store them for the winter?
You can put them in dirt in pots and move them that way, or you can store them in a box with some saw dust around them and replant them early in spring as soon as the ground can be worked.

I live in Perth metro and want to mass plant in a garden bed that gets full winter sun (plenty of light but no direct sun for several months), but then will look fabulous getting several hours of sun at the hottest part of the day in summer. Someone mentioned Agapanthus as one option but this may go bit yellow in the winter. Anyone with any other ideas?
Packisandra will work if your summers aren’t to hot. It tollerates sun, but 90 days in full sun will wilt it some. It stays green all winter and also likes the shade.

How many times a week? Heavy or drizzling? Cold/hot rain? Windy? Any other types of weather related things i should know about for the winter? I’ll be staying there in the winter for 3 months, so i want to prepare myself. Any information or tips would be helpful!
THANK YOU!
It really depends on how Miss. London Weather is feeling. Sometimes she’ll spare us, then sometimes she feels happy and gives us a little sun even though it’s still cold… then, she suddenly goes into a strop and gives us rain like you’ve never seen before.
