how often do you need to wax your snowbaord/skis?

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Me and one of my siblings snoboard and ski ( i snowboard, she ski’s ). And i was wondering how often i need wax my board and her skis. We’ve both had out equipment for a year and riding them for 1 season and are gearing up for another season on the same equipment. When i bought my snowboard it came waxed because it was new, but here skis were used and i have no idea when they were last waxed. I know it improves the performance of the equipment so i wanted to know. And would it be a better idea to take it somewhere to do it or just buy the wax and equipment to do it myself?

Depend on the conditions but generally every 3 or 4 trips you should wax, Add a day for powder days and take a day off for icey days, ice does a nice job of taking off wax. Another thing is the type of base, sintered bases for example do a really good job of taking in more wax when they’re waxed so generally you can go longer.

Usually a good sign to know when a board needs to be waxed is by just looking at the base, if you see a lot of dry strips like dried deodorant then you’ll want to wax, usually around the edges you’ll notice this first as that’s where most of the riding is done.

if i buy a snowbaord, and then grow a lot, can i still use it?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

im about 5′ 9" 125 pounds, size 11 feet, 13 years old. i want to buy a snowboard this year but i want to get a good one that i can keep for awhile. my question is, if i get a 153 cm board, could i still use it just as well if i grew more. like say i grew to be 6 feet tall (yeah i know thats a lot of growing, and im just asking this as a precuation). could i still use a 153 cm board? or say i grew taller than 6 feet, could i still use a 153 cm board?

thanks

Everyone is putting to much stock into this question. Ride what you feel comfortable with. It’s not like you are going to grow a foot in one year. If you are that worried then of course buy a bigger board. Where do you ride? The park/pipe or big mountain? If it’s freestyle don’t sweat it… small boards are great for jibs and tricks but slow on speed. If you ride in deep pow pow then go longer… otherwise you won’t be able to stay above the snow a will sink like a torpedo. Just look at some of the pros… I know a few who are 6′2” and ride a 151 for jibs, a 154 for park, and 157 for the deeps. Don’t just follow the rule of thumb… rules are meant to be broken.

snowbaord prep?

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

hey,
i was wondering if what i have been doing could prep me for snowbaording. i made a back yard rail(5ft long about) that i can grind fully with a 50/50 and almost with backside and frontside boardslides. i can also do a butters. but i was worried, i have been doing this on a skateboard with the trucks taken of and i was wondering: if i practice on this board will it improve or lessen the way i perform the tricks on an actual snowboard?

thanks for the info
also, i am doing these grinds on like a 2-3inch in diameter round hockey net pole, will real grinds be easier on a box or thicker rails?

It will definetally improve the way you do real snowboard tricks, this is actually something i’ve done to also help my balance…Though the approach and when your on the rail are completely different than snowboarding, they will help you with you balance which will become crucial as you start doing bigger rails…So keep doin it, it will help..

Women’s Snowbaord Bindings?

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Is there really a difference between men’s and women’s bindings?

I’m looking for a new set and i have men’s now, i do find i get a lot of calf pain.

Women specific bindings will probably help you with the calf pain.
For example, Burton bindings for women have shorter High backs and the top is round, which will probably help with the calf pain. It is also canted, meaning that it follows the shape of your leg. Girls bindings also come with more padding for the sensitive girls. They also come in smaller sizes.

its about 163 cm

That’s not a terrible size for you, a little bit on the longer side but you could definitely be fine learning on a length that long, If you do end up wanting to buy your own board look more near 158 for a nice all mountain size.
