Burton’s poaching program states that two of the resorts are on federal forest land. Which ones are these? Please give me a source.
Well, the three left are: Alta, UT; Deer Valley, Utah; and Mad River Glen, VT. Taos recently opened, so I’m not sure if they sit on public land, and it really doesn’t matter anymore since they decided to open to snowboarders.
Alta is the only one I know of that sits on public lands. They get a permit from the Forest Service who gets money from Congress, who gets the money from our tax dollars. So in essence, we’re paying for it.
Deer Valley is on private land, and MRG is owned by a cooperative. What that is exactly, I’m not sure. It could mean public lands, but I’m not sure.
"A cooperative owns Mad River Glen-the business and the land it operates on. The Mad River Glen Cooperative is associated with Vermont Cooperative, which describes the values of a cooperative this way:
Cooperatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, cooperative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others." (Transworld Snowboarding, March 08 issue, Pg 28.)
There, I typed the part about cooperatives all out for you. You’re welcome.

I’m an audio and production guy, I’ve worked in concerts for 6 years. I wanna live on a mountain this winter and ride as much as I can. Anyone know of a winter concert series at any resorts where I can push some cases?
i would imagine a bigger resort like Whistler have more chances of providing a living place and want a concert
Alpine Meadows hopes Friday’s storm translates into big money for the holidays.

Hi there,
If I don’t use any lifts in a ski resort( my friend is going to teach me), should I pay any other admission type fees? I live in Boston so probably I will go to Mount Sunapee, Killington, Wachusett, or Sugarloaf.
I appreciate any answer
Technically you don’t need a lift ticket at most VT resorts because the land is mostly either on USFS or VT State forest. If you want to walk up and down the beginner hill all day you might be able to get by under the radar. However, Ski Patrol and Mountain Management can come up with a bevy of reasons to boot you out. One commonly waged reason is that you are skiing on snow that has been made and/or groomed by mountain personnel and therefore you are using a service provided by the resort, therefore you should pay. I know the same goes for Whiteface and Gore in NY and Wildcat in NH. I can’t say for certain about the Maine and Mass. resorts.
It has been a few years since I was at Ascutney, but I think they have a lift at their beginner hill where you do not need a lift ticket.
It’s a tough call. I hate paying high prices to ski myself, but I also work at a ski hill and would be peeved at non-paying skiers making tracks over the snow I made and them not paying for it.
At a mountain that is on private land (I’m pretty sure Sunapee is not on public land at all) they can boot you out for any reason at all and skiing w/o a ticket could be argued as trespassing.
I want resorts with a hotel or lodging area right inside the skiing area. like the the bear creek ski resort.
The Poconos has many ski resorts. It’s only about 3 hours from midtown on the Interstate 80. I included links with the resort information and lodging.
Big White Ski Resort receives 750cm of champagne powder every year. This family oriented ski resort sits at the perfect elevation, is easy to get to, and features award winning grooming, Kid’s Centre and Ski & Board School.

The ski resort needs to be within 45 minutes of salt lake city. I am a snowboarder that likes all mountain snowboarding including the terrain park and the really long runs and the backcountry. I want one for the first day and one for the second day.
Park City and the Canyons, Both are pretty close to 45minutes away from salt lake city. I went to both places last year, Both good mountains with pretty long runs, You’ll get a good park experience at both mountains.
Im going on a trip to vegas in january and need advice on good ski resorts under 7hrs driving distance from vegas. Thanks.
