Is there any place to camp near a ski resort? Preferably up one of the cottonwoods outside salt lake?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Basically are there any places in the U.S. to camp near a ski resort IN THE WINTER. If it is an RV place that is better than nothing but I am really looking for tent camping.

Not that I know of. Most campgrounds close for the winter due to snowfall (the grounds aren’t maintained) not to mention the cold temps.

I am looking to find a good snowboard/ski resort in the Rockies and the western coast of the US?

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

My husband wants the powder terrain and he is the skier and I want to snowboard with our daughter who is 8. Please help with a good family ski resort that is friendly and not overly priced like Heavenly in Lake Tahoe (we have been there).
I have been looking at Utah, Colorado, California, Oregon, and parts or Arizona.

Colorado is probably more expensive, but more than likely has what you’re looking for. Did a quick search, and found the following:

Inn at Lost Creek
Telluride

onsite ski shop

Hotel Telluride

lots of trails, etc.

Liftside Executive Suites at the Village
Breckenridge

ski-in/ski-out

Silvertree Hotel
Snowmass Village

snowboard lessons, etc.

Vintage Resort
Winter Park

skiing, snowboard, even a tubing hill!!

Hope that helps!

Where can I find a summer ski resort job with affordable housing?

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

I live in the US and I love to snowboard and am wanting to find summer job this year. I was thinking of working at ski resort, but the only one I can find is Whistler and I heard that its really expensive to live there. Anyone have any ideas? Or any other ideas for summer jobs? Thanks

Only skiing in Summer I know of nearby is at Mt Hood near Portland Oregon. Skiers come from around the globe to practice skiing in Summer. There is a big lodge at the ski lift and rooms. It doesn’t require many employees, it seems

Kitzbhel ski resort | Austria ski holidays

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

For information, visit – http://www.crystalski.co.uk/destinations/austria/kitzb__252_hel__amp__aurach/kitzb__252_hel__amp__aurach.html?cmp=descyoutube

Bustling Austrian all-rounder Kitzbuhel is firmly established as a hotspot for Europe’s skiing glitterati. The quaint 700 year old medieval town is the hub for the surrounding peaks that give access to almost 360 degrees of diverse skiing and snowboarding terrain.

The Hahnenkamm gondola will whisk you beyond the treeline and up to the glistening expanse of the Hahnenkamm Arena. From here the linked ski areas are so extensive that you can always be exploring new ground.

Any info about being a seasonnaire in a french ski resort?

Monday, June 14th, 2010

I have been thinking about working for a season in a ski resort, preferably Courchevel. I would just like some info and advice about if its good or bad, tips and what is the right age to do this.

Thanks for all the help!

What nationality are you?
If you are not a EU national you will not be taken on, whatever your age, as it is against the law to employ nationals from outside Europe. Work permits for people from outside the EU are practically impossible to get except for highly skilled persons, seasoned professionals, or senior academics.
Chalet girls or hotel staff are easy to get from all over the EU. You must be over eighteen. The wages are minimal and often the work is quite demanding; you have to be quick and efficient. There is a lot of cleaning to do. Language skills are also required, and an adaptable personality. You do get a certain amount of hassle from some tourists who treat you like a servant, and single or drunken men out for a quick pull, so you have to have a stong personality and must be able to deal with that kind of thing, and also put up with a lot of untidiness and people with a casual attitude. You do not get to do a lot of skiing unless you are a qualified ski instructor!

Trip to… Val Thorens…highest ski resort

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Val Thorens, highest ski resort in Europe at 2300 m altitude is also the summit of the 3 Vallées, whose culminating point is the “Epaule du Bouchet” at 3230 metres.

Les 3 Vallées, largest ski area in the world, offer you an exceptional range of landscapes and a great diversity of skiing, with – among others – very easy links between the different resorts. Thus, anyone can ski the 3 Vallées. And concerning off-piste possibilities, there’s just no limit…

For more details, for example a remarkable interactive route map, don’t forget to visit the official website: http://www.les3vallees.com.

http://www.valthorens.com

Here are a few figures in order to give you a good idea of how exceptional the 3 Vallées are :

Altitude minimum: 1300 metres – Altitude maximum: 3230 metres
16 villages and resorts: more than 600 km of mapped-out pistes
328 pistes (56 green, 120 blue, 115 red, 37 black) on 400 km2
200 ski lifts, 25 summits which can be joined on skis, 6 glaciers
124 km of cross-country skiing,
1 500 snow cannons, 75 grooming machines
50 nationalities represented, 3 altiports and about 4 snow parks and lot of chalets plenty of beer..:)

Telluride Ski Resort Terrain Park Grooming with Chris Meyer and the Park Bully Snow Cat

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

WATCH IN HQ!
Chris Meyer late in the 2009 season grooming some wet snow in the Hoot Brown Terrain Park with the Mercedes Park Bully. Grooming conditions were far from ideal. The snow is really wet and it was hard to get a good pass because of the warm weather. This is the only footage like this on Youtube and this is a rare glimpse at how terrain parks are created. This Snow Cat cost over 250K and is powered by a Mercedes Twin Turbo 7.2 Liter Inline 6 Cylinder engine which is custom designed to run hydraulic pumps. This Cat has 6 pumps total which power the driving track, tiller and blade. This is one of the most complex pieces of machinery in the Telluride Valley. The computer system which runs it is state of the art. The Mercedes Park Bully is amazing.
