Snowboarding for beginners?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I’m moving up north for school and I’m looking to buy a snowbaord and all the other equiptment needed. I have no idea what to look for when buying everything. What are some good brand names, and should I get the stuff from just a sports store like National Sports or Sport Check, or somewhere that sells mostly skii/snowboard stuff. Any tips are appreciated, thanks.

Start With renting a board. For a week then go. Try snowboarding see how you like it. Then go from there.

If you like it. Try some brands like Burton, forum, Rome-SDS, Ride.

I suggest Burton.

Board- Lex
Bindings- Notori
Boots- Q ( yes, its just Q.)

That should be good for your information..

You look at jackets and pants yourself and find something you like.

But i would look around.

Don’t go to any big sport shop.
Buy from the brand’s site!

Which ski resort would be the least busy during the Christmas break?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I’m looking for a relatively big West Coast resort in either the USA or Canada. Something like Jackson Hole, Alta/Snowbird, Whistler, Lake Louise etc. Thanks!

Braekenridge, Colorado is one of the top ski resorts in the entire country. They generally don’t get very busy around the holidays because people would rather be at home. There’s an amazing little town and ski in and ski out condos and houses that you can rent.

What plant will grow in both full winter shade and look good in summer getting several hours of sun?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I live in Perth metro and want to mass plant in a garden bed that gets full winter sun (plenty of light but no direct sun for several months), but then will look fabulous getting several hours of sun at the hottest part of the day in summer. Someone mentioned Agapanthus as one option but this may go bit yellow in the winter. Anyone with any other ideas?

Packisandra will work if your summers aren’t to hot. It tollerates sun, but 90 days in full sun will wilt it some. It stays green all winter and also likes the shade.

What kind of Burton snowboard should I get?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

My board just got stolen so Im looking for a new board. I am a decent boarder and mainly do mountain riding on groomed slopes. I have Cartel bindings. Preferably I would like to get a burton board, either a 08 or 09. My budget is 200-500(somewhere around there). Im going to wait till the end of the season when everything goes on sale. Any suggestions for a board? Thanks guys.
Cause im a Burton whore lol

Why does it have to be a burton? plenty of other great brands out there that have just as good or even better products.

GNU
Libtech
Omatic
Stepchild
Capita
Neversummer
Forum

to name a few boards I’d look at specifically would be.

Neversummer SL-R
Libtech Skatebanana
GNU Street
Capita Horrorscope
Burton Hero
Stepchild Powder Sucks

I see you like to ride what everyone else rides, Well look at the burton Hero than your best choice for a burton do it all board, has a sick rocker easy to press good for park and all around riding, it also has a similar magnetraction design that GNU and libtech have.

heh im sorry to say greg but the custom is a huge step down compared to the hero, the custom doesn’t even have the rocker or magnetraction sidewall, the custom has a cap sidewall which is pretty cheap and can end up costing you a board if you get a deep gash in it.

What some good twin tip skis for some park skiing but mostly all mountain groomers?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Im just getting started in freestyle skiing and i want to get a pair of twin tip skis, but i also want them to be able to handle (mostly) groomers and still be able to be good on black diamonds.

Look at Line Chronics
I have them, they are amazing on just about everything you can throw at them. Groomers, Park, Rails, Moguls, Crud, and probably powder (but i don’t have any place with any kind of powder near by so i wouldn’t know.) This skis will rip black diamonds and pop you so high off lips your boots will get scared.

If you have any questions about this ski you can send me an email

When choosing a ski resort to go, what are your focus or concerns?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

1. The number of runs and trails
2. The views.
3. Lift ticket prices.
4. Lodges
5. Ski areas and the terrains.
6. The general snow condition
7. Easy access to the ski resort.
8. Food and the restaurants.
9. Night life around the ski resort
10. Whether it’s crowded or not.
11. Other

When choosing to go to a place I’ve never been to before I take several things into consideration.

I look for terrain and the number of runs first. I want a good trip with lots of variation.

Distance is the second thing I look at. I’d love to go to Tremblant tomorrow, but It’s a heck of a drive and I don’t feel like flying to Quebec.

Crowds suck. I avoid most big resorts on weekends…I avoid my own resort on weekends…and it’s small. Mid-week is the time to go, but you might have to put up with closed lifts and trails.

I really don’t take much else into consideration. I rarely stay on resort property, so I know I have to drive to get to the resort from my hotel. As long as I can reasonably walk to the lodge or get a shuttle…I’m cool with that. I don’t really care about the nightlife. If I stumble upon a good parrty, great…if not I’m quite content to turn in early. Same thing for food. As long as I can get some food I’m happy. I generally bring a lot of my own food if I am driving to the resort anyway. I try to find a place to stay that has breakfast at the hotel. I eat a light lunch…sometimes just a ClifBar and some trail mix, and then look for good eats after I’m done. Unless I’m flying and getting an airport shuttle straight to the resort…then I have to take my food options more seriously. I’m not picky about hotels either…as long as they have a hot tub. But I’ve also slept in my truck in the parking lot of Jay Peak and pitched a tent a mile or so outside of Steamboat Springs.

Cost is always the monkeywrench in my planning. I’ll ski at a crappy little hill if I have a comp and it’s not going to cost me a boat load to stay overnight or travel a long distance.

Case in point: I’m going to VT next week for 3 days. I have two comps for Smuggler’s Notch and an almost free day at Mad River Glen. I could go to Windham NY (also free) and skip getting hotels…but the skiing is better at Smuggs and Mad River. I also have comps for two places in western NY state. I doubt I’ll go because the drive there isn’t worth it for the tiny hill, yet I’ll pay $25 to ski at a hill of slightly larger size but only 1 hour away from my home. So while the tix are cheaper at one place, it’ll cost me twice as much just to get there. I think I would only pay Top Dollar for something like "A Day with Glen Plake" or "Drink and Ski with Bode Miller."

There are a few other things I look for as well, but they’re sort of a tack-on..nothing I base my trip on.

Lessons: I’m always up for learning new stuff, so what kind of free or cheap clinics are going on? How much do they charge for advanced lessons?

Demo Center: I love riding other planks. Does the resort have a demo center? If so, how much to go play on different skis? (This is a must if I’m flying. I hate checking my skis. For $30 a day, I’ll use demos rather than put my planks on the plane….If you race, this isn’t an option…you’ll want your skis.)

Which ski resorts should i go to in utah if im only there for two days?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

The ski resort needs to be within 45 minutes of salt lake city. I am a snowboarder that likes all mountain snowboarding including the terrain park and the really long runs and the backcountry. I want one for the first day and one for the second day.

Park City and the Canyons, Both are pretty close to 45minutes away from salt lake city. I went to both places last year, Both good mountains with pretty long runs, You’ll get a good park experience at both mountains.

Would waxing a snow board ruin the iron?

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I don’t have waxing iron but I do happen to have one. I was debating doing to Goodwill and getting one to ruin but my friend says that it will just drip right off of the iron? What do you all think?

You need an iron that you will only use for waxing. Like the others said, you’ll never be able to use it for clothes again. Basically what you do is melt the wax on the iron, let it drip down on to the board, and then basically iron it so it’s smooth all across. And then scrape it. So yeah, you’ll definitely have wax all over the iron.
