if i buy a snowbaord, and then grow a lot, can i still use it?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

im about 5′ 9" 125 pounds, size 11 feet, 13 years old. i want to buy a snowboard this year but i want to get a good one that i can keep for awhile. my question is, if i get a 153 cm board, could i still use it just as well if i grew more. like say i grew to be 6 feet tall (yeah i know thats a lot of growing, and im just asking this as a precuation). could i still use a 153 cm board? or say i grew taller than 6 feet, could i still use a 153 cm board?

thanks

Everyone is putting to much stock into this question. Ride what you feel comfortable with. It’s not like you are going to grow a foot in one year. If you are that worried then of course buy a bigger board. Where do you ride? The park/pipe or big mountain? If it’s freestyle don’t sweat it… small boards are great for jibs and tricks but slow on speed. If you ride in deep pow pow then go longer… otherwise you won’t be able to stay above the snow a will sink like a torpedo. Just look at some of the pros… I know a few who are 6′2” and ride a 151 for jibs, a 154 for park, and 157 for the deeps. Don’t just follow the rule of thumb… rules are meant to be broken.

What is your favorite resort at Walt Disney World?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

In Orlando.
Mine is Pop Century and I am planning on spending my next vacation there, but I’m also not sure if I’d like to stay in a different resort.
What is your favorite resort in Disney, and what is your review on it?
Thanks in advance!

I have a couple, so here are my favorites.

1. Polynesian – expensive but worth every penny. There is so much to do, the resort itself is beautiful, the rooms are huge, and the service is outstanding. Plus, being on the monorail system to the Magic Kingdom and being able to watch the Wishes fireworks show from your room is pretty cool.

2. Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa – my home Disney Vacation Club resort. We are staying here in April at the Treehouse Villas, and can’t wait. The resort is huge, and very quiet. Close to Downtown Disney, slowly becoming my top resort.

3. All-Star Movies – has everything that Pop Century has (including price) plus the decor of some of the best Disney movies in history. We have stayed in the 101 Dalmations wing and the Fantasia wing.

4. Caribbean Beach – big resort in the moderate level. Tons to do, food court and restaurant, decor is outstanding. Had a blast staying here.

Those are my favorites. I hope this helps. If you want more info I would suggest checking out the disboards. The disboards is a message boards type website that is all about going to Disney. You can get advice on where to stay including resort reviews, restaurant reviews, tips for avoiding crowds, and just about any other topic you can think of. I put the link below.

Have a great trip!

What should i do to get my bonsai tree ready for winter?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I have 3 maple bonsai trees and this is the first winter i’ve owned them. when i got them they were already growing wild for a couple of seasons, i think. what should i do for the winter? should i water them in the winter? do i have to put the pot under some hay to keep it warm? should i add fertalizer to them? should i transplant before winter?

This is an excellent question! I love bonsai trees, the bigger the better. I’ve noticed that there are other trees that resemble bonsai on a much larger scale.
How tall is your bonsai?

To answer your question:

Climate-

Outdoor bonsai are deciduous trees that require the same climate changes in spring, summer, fall, and winter as full-sized trees of the same species. As a rule, deciduous bonsai do well in regions with humidity levels of 50% to 75% and yearly temperature ranges of 20 to 100 degree F. During winter, deciduous bonsai must remain outdoors. This period of dormancy is essential–without it, the tree may become unhealthy and susceptible to disease. Protect or "heel-in" your bonsai by covering the pot and soil with pine needles or mulch. Place the tree against a wall to shield it from extreme winds. Outdoor bonsai are more vulnerable to extreme cold than full-size trees and should be moved to a garage, shed, cold frame, or basement when temperatures fall below 20 degrees F.

Soil and fertilizer

Bonsai trees spend years in the same soil and eventually deplete the available nutrients. Providing supplemental nutrition is essential for a healthy tree. Most water soluble and time-released fertilizers work well when used as directed.

What kind of clothes do you wear skiing?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I have never been skiing before but I am going with my church in December. What do you wear when you ski?

I wear a synthetic or a wool/synthetic blend baselayer. (Either EMS Techwick or Smartwool.) Generally I wear fleece pants and an uninsulated pair of waterproof snowpants, and a midweight fleece jacket under a lightweight waterproof jacket shell. I only wear one pair of wool ski socks and my helmet. I normally wear a lightweight windproof glove but keep my heavy-duty waterproof mittens in my pack.

If it’s really freaking cold I wear my insulated ski pants and add another layer on my upper body. Usually a Primaloft vest or a wool sweater…but it’s gotta be really cold for me to do that.

Never wear cotton. Once it gets wet you will be c-o-l-d!

What books, links, sources can help me write a business plan for a ski resort development?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

What books, links, sources can help me write a business plan for a ski resort development?

Articles, opinions, books, texts, seminars, etc. Thanks!

Hi,

I made a research for you. Here’s what i got.

In order for a business to improve its performance it must understand what it actually does. It must convert the “how” into defined processes, which must be able to have their performance measured, and the results used to make subsequent improvements. They do not usually enable a person unfamiliar with a job to do that job, but they will help an employee, supervisor or manager understand and do their job better.

Hope this help you. :)

What is the average price for a good pair of ski/snow board goggles?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

So, I want to get some goggles, aand they are $110 us, what is a reasonable price you would pay for a pir of decent goggles in canadian dolars if possible :P
Thanks
I forgot to add, the goggles come with ear muffs, headphones, a bandana, and a hard goggle case. the brand is VZ and they have mirrored lenses.
The headphones are actually in the earmuffs btw…

thats a reasonable price, especialy with the extras. obiously you could get a decent pair for >50 but good, higher brand name (oakley, scott, VZ) goggles generaly start at 100 and range up to 200.

what place is better for snow boarding in California…?

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

I have to make a choice on where to go snowboarding, it’s either Mammoth, June Lake, or Lake Tahoe, all in California.
I have been boarding for a few years but i am by no means a pro, i just like to have a good time and make it to the bottom without killing myself in the process.
!
What you liked/ didn’t like about any one of three places!

Thank you !!

It all depends on where you live. If you are in socal then Mammoth is your best bet. The mountain is for the lack of a better word fuckin huge. They have a great park with many tournaments and a lot of pros ride there. The snow is different than what you get in lake tahoe. It has a lot of options of terrains from beginners to pros.

If you are in Norcal then the drive down to mammoth is killer since the pass through Yosemite (120) shuts down from december to june. So unless you want to drive to for 8 hours to go to Mammoth your best bet is lake tahoe.

Dont get me wrong LT is great. I put in about 40 days each season in LT. In tahoe it depends on what kind of riding you want to do. If you like really steep terrain and downhill riding kirkwood has the best to offer. Personally that is not my style, so im not a fan of KW.

Heavenly is full of beginners and their slopes are always crowded with ppl falling every few minutes.

I ride at Northstar and Sierra. N* has one of the best parks in LT. They have a huge park, a progression park with smaller jumps and boxes for beginners, a halfpipe, superpipe for tournaments and a hidden park called the stash with really advanced features. A lot of ppl bash N* by calling it flatstar, but that works for me since you can learn to do a lot of tricks like 180s and such when the terrain is not too steep.
Squaw is wayy to expensive and they think they are badass because they hosted the winter Olympics in 1960, when snowboarding wasnt even on the list of events.
Each resort around LT has its plus and minus, but if you are looking for a place with nice open wide turns that are not too steep and a good park to learn N* is the way to go.
